Save water with landscaping tips from the EPA!

6/3/2008
Washington, DC

Start Early Plan ahead and plant in the spring.

Go Native Use native and drought resistant plants.

Mulch! Mulch! Mulch! Compost helps keep water close to roots and prevents evaporation. Be sure to leave space around plant bases and trees.

Less Lawn Replace some grass with attractive, drought-resistent groundcover.

Super Soak Give plants a few heavy soakings in the morning.

Drip, Drip, Drip Drip irrigation systems water right at the root and are more efficient than sprinkler systems.

Grey is Good Recapturing grey water (from the washing machine, for example) or rainwater is a free source of irrigation.
